Forever Young Club - Loving Life Over 40

MEDIA RELEASE
August 2007

When Belinda Green turned 50, it was a shock. A former Miss World and well known media personality, Belinda’s sense of identity was challenged.

Five years on, and Belinda is revelling in her new found freedom and loving life over 50.

When Forever Young Club – Australia’s leading online social community for over 50s – approached Belinda to be the ambassador, she immediately saw the benefits of the project for mature Australians facing divorce, the death of a spouse, rural isolation or just the challenge of meeting new friends.

For Belinda it was the empty nest syndrome that affected her the most. ”When my children left home I just wasn’t ready to face the world alone. I’ve always told my single friends to get out and embrace life because through meeting people you can only meet more people,” Belinda said.

With an ageing population, longer life spans and increasing numbers of cashed-up baby boomers going through relationship breakdowns, turning 50, 60 or even 70 can present many Australians with a whole new outlook and range of life choices.

As part of Belinda’s role with Forever Young Club, there will be an ‘Ask Belinda’ page on the website. Using her practical life tools, the ‘Ask Belinda’ page will provide Forever Young Club members with the know-how and enthusiasm they need to help achieve goals, contentment and to love their life over 50. Belinda will also host live Forums on the website once a month.

“As a Baby Boomer I know we don’t want to ‘grow old’ we just want to ‘grow.’ Being 50 is not what it was in my parents’ generation. We want to continue to be active and vital – explore the country and really live our lives with passion,” she said.

Belinda began her professional life when she entered the modelling industry in 1972. She went on to win the coveted title of Miss World, her modelling career continuing in Europe and the United States. Upon returning to Australia, Belinda embarked upon a career in media and public speaking.

Forever Young Club’s Mike Ramsay said that there was an obvious gap in the market for an online meeting place targeting boomers – particularly one that understands people over 50 who don’t see themselves as ‘senior citizens’ but vibrant, healthy, active participants in life.

“The majority over 50s want to develop relationships with people of their own generation. They have a real sense of camaraderie about their life experiences and appreciate the depth of relationships that can develop with someone else in the over 50 bracket.

“We are aiming to develop the site as the premier social network for Australians over 50, offering a range of lifestyle solutions, special interest forums and events,” Mike said.

Forever Young Club was launched in early 2007 with the aim of providing a safe, friendly and comfortable online community for Australians over 50. For more information or to register FREE visit www.forever-young-club.com.au or www.fyc.com.au. Premium membership rates start at $25 per month.
